Our Story

Welcome to WavyWMN (pronounced: Women), and this is our story: We’re a community and platform celebrating Black Women wavers all over the world. Helping to further the education of natural hair, shifting conversations around it’s textured beauty. Intentionally inspiring Black Women from all walks of life, their Barbers and Hairstylists.

The latter playing an essential role in helping us look and feel beautiful. Supporting whatever they want to talk about — especially their waves. Existing to help bring an end to unpleasant experiences faced with our hair in society. Including but not limited to the creation of streamlined, original content made especially for us, and by us.

Waving: The process of brushing the natural hair curl flat, creating a “wave-like” pattern.

Launching in January 2020, WavyWMN became a space for Barbers, Stylists, and Black Women wavers alike. Finding Barbers and Stylists who don’t just cut hair, but waves specifically. Educating and encouraging everyone, regardless of where you are in your waving journey. Carving out space for community, and connecting with each other no matter where you are.

Why Now?

Too often is Waving overlooked when discussing natural hair, as it isn’t always an option for Black Women. WavyWMN acknowledges this, by creating streamlined content designed for wavers in mind.

Though a small start, we seek to represent those often overlooked in beauty aisle discussions. We strive to share the story of Black Women across the world; and the ones around us. To date, WavyWMN is the largest, active community of Black Women wavers.

Many of you have nightmarish stories of Barbers who didn’t do right by you (or your hair). For this reason, the Barber & Stylist Directory was created in attempt to prevent that. With hopes of increasing convenience and accessibility, as safety is a top priority for Wavies worldwide! Black Women deserve to feel safe while feeling beautiful, and WavyWMN is here to always ensure that.

”After all, if hair is the canvas, waves are just the paint.”
